Alvar Smith

Alavar Smith is a traditional singer from East Suffolk. A retired gamekeeper, Alvar has a lifelong connection to traditional singing, and is a tradition bearer for many of the songs connected with the iconic Blaxhall Ship. He learnt his songs from his grandfather, uncle Bob Scarce, and from singers such as Cyril Poacher and Bob Hart. He has recently been recorded by the Veteran label, and his album of traditional singing from the Blaxhall Ship will be released in 2026.
